The subscription line on an FSM quote is almost never the year-one bill. Card processing on your monthly volume, named add-ons, onboarding and migration, and contract economics (prepaid terms, auto-renewal, early termination, seat locks) routinely outweigh the software fee, especially for growing US and Canadian contractors comparing Jobber, ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, FieldPulse, and published per-user models.
Search already surfaces that anxiety as fewer hidden fees: Jobber or ServiceTitan? and as field-payments questions (card processing, tips, payment links). Short Jobber-vs-ServiceTitan verdicts on those topics live in the FAQ on our ServiceTitan vs Jobber hub. This post sorts fee types into a taxonomy, shows each vendor’s fees from our pricing posts with as-of dates, and gives you a quote checklist you can take to any demo.
Vendor-published figures below are as of October 2026: restated from our Jobber pricing, ServiceTitan pricing, Housecall Pro pricing, and FieldPulse pricing posts and checked against each vendor’s own pricing, help-center, and terms pages on October 6, 2026. Third-party ServiceTitan estimates are on our ServiceTitan pricing post, dated and labeled unverified; we don’t repeat them here, and we don’t print third-party FieldPulse price estimates. Forz publishes $50 per user per month on annual billing, or $60 month-to-month, with a 10-user minimum; see Forz pricing.
Why the subscription line is rarely the bill
A workable mental model for year-one all-in cost:
Subscription (tier, seats, or per-user)
+ Processing on monthly card (and ACH) volume
+ Named add-ons (marketing, AI voice/receptionist, pipeline, GPS, Pro modules, custom forms)
+ One-time onboarding / implementation / training / paid migration
+ Contract effects (prepaid non-refundable, pay-through-term, auto-renew, renewal increases, export fees)
Published or quoted software fees answer only the first line. At Jobber’s published 2.9% card rate (worked example on our Jobber pricing post), a shop collecting $40,000/month by card pays about $1,160/month in percentage fees before per-transaction cents, often larger than the software subscription. Housecall Pro’s published ladder shows the same volume-sensitive gap: in-person 2.59% versus keyed / card-on-file / commercial 3.49% is a 0.9-point spread, or about $360/month on the same $40k (as on our Housecall Pro pricing post).
Fee taxonomy (what “hidden” usually means)
Line-item these categories on every quote. This section defines them; vendor dollars come in the table below.
- Card / payment processing: Percentage plus fixed fee; different rates for in-person vs keyed vs card-on-file; ACH; instant payouts; tips and payment links if the product offers them.
- Seat / user / technician billing quirks: Who counts (office, helpers, subcontractors); minimum subscription level; empty seats locked for the term.
- Tier gates: Features that force a plan jump (job costing, route optimization, memberships, advanced reporting).
- Named add-ons: Marketing suites, AI receptionist/voice, pipeline/CRM modules, phone/GPS, custom forms, Pro products.
- Onboarding / implementation / training: Included vs separately invoiced; extra training cohorts.
- Data migration: Self-serve templates vs paid engineer / assisted import.
- Usage / messaging / telephony: Texts, AI conversations, phone lines and licenses.
- Contract economics: Prepaid non-refundable, auto-renewal, notice windows, early termination = remaining payments, renewal price increases, export / data-retention fees, hardware-return billing.
The table below sorts each vendor’s published fees into those categories.

Card rates and field payments
Processing is where “hidden” often stops being metaphorical. Use the vendor’s own published schedule, or insist on one in writing.
Jobber (as of Oct 2026; see jobber-pricing): Card 2.9% + 30¢, Tap to Pay 2.7% + 30¢, ACH 1% (US), instant payouts +1%. Rates are published and same across plans. Worked example from that post: $40,000/mo card volume × 2.9% ≈ $1,160/mo before per-txn cents.
ServiceTitan (as of Oct 2026; see servicetitan-pricing): Vendor says rates “vary” by method, transaction, and agreement: quote-based, order-form only. Third-party estimates are on that post, dated and labeled unverified; we don’t repeat them here.
Housecall Pro (help center, as of Oct 2026; see housecall-pro-pricing): Method-based published ladder: in-person 2.59%, online customer 2.99%, keyed / on-file / Amex / commercial 3.49%, ACH 1%, Instapay +1% (plus $0.75 under $75). On $40,000/mo, the 2.59% vs 3.49% gap is about $360/mo, as shown on our Housecall Pro post. Maintenance-agreement shops that bill card-on-file and commercial accounts feel that ladder more than swipe-heavy residential crews.
FieldPulse: Payments is an add-on; FieldPulse’s pricing page says “usage-based” with “transaction fees apply” and publishes no percentage (as of Oct 2026). Get the method matrix in writing.
Tips / payment links: Jobber lets customers add a tip when paying online, with its card rates applying (Jobber pricing page, Oct 2026). Ask every vendor for a written payment-method matrix (in-person, online, keyed, card-on-file, commercial cards, ACH, instant payout, tips if offered).
For a short Jobber-vs-ServiceTitan answer on payments, see the FAQ on our ServiceTitan vs Jobber hub; full fee grids are on the four pricing posts linked above.
Contract-term traps (what to circle on the order form)
Each item below is sourced on the pricing posts linked above:
- Prepaid / non-refundable: Jobber annual prepaid: access continues to term end, initial payment non-refundable (jobber-pricing).
- Minimum term + early termination = remaining payments: ServiceTitan: new customers typically 12–36 months (10-K); ToU early-term fee = all remaining payments (servicetitan-pricing).
- Auto-renew + notice window: FieldPulse default 60-day written notice before year renewal; ServiceTitan auto-renew “in nearly all cases”; Jobber auto-renews unless turned off.
- Renewal price increases: FieldPulse: fee increases at renewal with 60-day notice; ServiceTitan: fees may change on 30 days’ notice unless the order form says otherwise.
- Seat count locked for term: FieldPulse: fees non-refundable / non-cancelable for the term “regardless of usage”, and billed seats stay unchanged when users are removed (ToS 8.3); ServiceTitan: Minimum Subscription Level on the order form.
- Cancel friction: Housecall Pro: help center says billing isn’t cancelled until a team member has spoken with the account owner by phone.
- Export / data retention fees: ServiceTitan: SQL Server .BAK export; service fees may apply; no obligation to keep data beyond ~60 days post-term.
- Hardware return continues billing: FieldPulse Fleet Tracking: its Terms of Service and Customer Success Agreement say the device subscription keeps billing until the hardware is returned.
Circle these on the order form before you sign, not after the first renewal invoice lands.

Visibility summary: Jobber wins visibility of list fees on a published grid. ServiceTitan and FieldPulse require a written all-in because core dollars aren’t public. FieldPulse’s own pricing FAQ says “what you’re quoted is what you pay,” so make sure every seat type and add-on is on that quote. Housecall Pro publishes a lot, but trade packages and unpublished add-ons still hide totals. Forz publishes core per-user pricing and separates optional lines; see Forz pricing. For a short Jobber-vs-ServiceTitan answer on “fewer hidden fees,” see the FAQ on our ServiceTitan vs Jobber hub; this checklist is the deeper tool.
When Forz is the clearer fee picture (and when it isn’t)
Clearer when you need: a published per-user core ($50/user/month billed annually or $60 month-to-month, 10-user minimum), included scheduling/dispatch, route optimization, two-way QuickBooks Online sync, inspections, service agreements, and customer portal; included guided onboarding plus one standard import (larger or custom migrations can be quoted separately); a 3-year core-rate guarantee; and a real month-to-month option with no annual seat lock-in. Optional usage-based AI, telephony/messaging, payment processing, third-party services, and premium add-ons are priced separately, and you see the price before you turn them on; see Forz pricing.
Not automatic “cheapest”: at list price, Jobber’s subscription line is lower than Forz’s for teams up to 15 users, and Housecall Pro’s standard plans are lower at 5, 8, and 12 users (see our Jobber pricing and Housecall Pro pricing posts). Processing still applies everywhere you take cards. Forz payment processing is separate, so compare that line against Jobber’s published schedule, Housecall Pro’s ladder, or ServiceTitan’s or FieldPulse’s written rates. Shops that only need quote → schedule → invoice on a small residential crew should not treat “clearer” as “always lower.”
Next step: book a demo with the checklist above and your current vendor quote. Cross-check fee depth on Jobber pricing, ServiceTitan pricing, Housecall Pro pricing, and FieldPulse pricing; use the ServiceTitan vs Jobber hub for short decision FAQs; and see Forz vs Jobber, Forz vs ServiceTitan, or Forz vs FieldPulse when you need feature-level depth. Frequently Asked Questions
What are the most common hidden fees in field service software?
The ones that most often inflate year-one cost beyond the subscription: card processing (percentage + fixed, often method-based), named add-ons (marketing, AI voice/receptionist, pipeline, GPS, Pro modules), onboarding/implementation invoiced separately, paid data migration, usage (texts, AI conversations, phone lines), and contract economics (prepaid non-refundable terms, auto-renewal notice windows, early termination = remaining payments, renewal increases, export fees). Line-item all eight taxonomy categories above on every quote.
Does Jobber or ServiceTitan have fewer hidden fees?
Short answer: Jobber publishes more list fees (plans, add-ons, and processing rates as of Oct 2026); ServiceTitan keeps package prices, Pro dollars, and processing rates on the order form, with onboarding generally invoiced separately (10-K). That is a transparency difference, not a guarantee that Jobber is always cheaper all-in. For a named verdict and related FAQs, see our ServiceTitan vs Jobber hub.
How do card processing fees compare across FSM platforms?
As of October 2026: Jobber publishes 2.9% + 30¢ (Tap to Pay 2.7% + 30¢, ACH 1%, instant +1%); Housecall Pro publishes a method ladder from 2.59% in-person to 3.49% keyed/on-file/commercial; ServiceTitan says rates “vary” (quote-based; get them in writing); FieldPulse Payments applies transaction fees with no % published. On $40k/mo card volume, Jobber’s 2.9% line alone is ~$1,160/mo before cents, often larger than the software fee.
What should I ask for on an FSM software quote?
Year-1 and year-2 all-in (subscription + add-ons + processing on your volume + onboarding/migration); who counts as a seat; minimum seats and what happens if headcount drops; every add-on with billing basis; written processing rates by method; onboarding and migration scope/cost; term, auto-renew, notice deadline, renewal-increase cap, early-termination formula; export format/fees/retention; and whether intro pricing reverts. Use the numbered checklist in this article.
When is Forz clearer on fees than Jobber or ServiceTitan?
When you want a published per-user core ($50 annual / $60 MTM, 10-user minimum), core modules included without a tier/Pro maze, included guided onboarding and one standard import (larger or custom migrations quoted separately), a 3-year core-rate guarantee, and month-to-month without annual seat lock-in. At list price, Jobber’s subscription is lower than Forz’s up to 15 users and Housecall Pro’s standard plans are lower at 5, 8, and 12 users, and Forz payment processing is priced separately, so compare those lines in writing.
